Vintage Valentines from Cape Cod

A couple of weeks ago, in a spur-of-the-moment decision, my boyfriend and I headed out of NYC for the weekend.  I suggested Cape Cod and luckily we both love beach towns in the winter, so Cape Cod it was! Our first stop once we arrived was an amazing antique store that held many little treasures. My favorite find was this bunch of vintage Valentines, all of which are dated between 1951 – 1952.  On the back of each card there are simple handwritten notes – each inscribed in pencil with a simple message, most of them just addressed with a to and from. I absolutely love them and wanted to share these, along with a few photos from our weekend adventure in Cape Cod.

On the way to the Cape, we stopped at the Shawmut Diner in New Bedford, Massachusetts.  It was amazing – a classic retro diner, with tasty food, and friendly service.  Since my only other visit to New England has been for the Brimfield Antique Fair in the summer, I had to get some real  New England clam chowder this time around.  And it sure was deeeelicious!  After our meal, we headed towards the Cape, did our vintage shopping, and then spent the rest of the afternoon exploring. The water on Cape Cod was the most still, beautiful body of water I have ever laid eyes on. It was so relaxing and peaceful. While most of the day was cloudy, the sky decided to clear just an hour before sunset and we walked (trespassed) onto some private abandoned backyards along the beach in Hyannis to take in the most amazing sunset.  I had only taken my 35 mm camera out at that time, so don’t have any pictures to share. But, just imagine the brightest purple and pink colors you’ve ever seen, glowing along the coastline. It was magical – the perfect end to a perfect day.
