Last Minute Valentine’s Day Décor

As evident in my 1996 diary entry, it’s the simple things that make silly celebrations like Valentine’s Day memorable.  Adding a little décor to a regular dining table can go a long way with the Mom (or Dad/boyfriend/girlfriend/friend) memory-making job.  So whether you’re celebrating the day with your kids, significant other, or friends, here are 3 simple (and cheap!) tips to make the setup extra special.

Tip #1: Create a heart stamped tablecloth with butcher paper, ink, and a heart stamp.  Don’t have a heart stamp handy?  No problem!  Just use a potato to carve out your own stamp.  And if you’re without a stamp pad, paint works just as well!

Tip #2: Whether it’s a breakfast quiche or after-dinner dessert, adorn the dish with an arrow.  First, cut out the point and feather of the arrow from red paper.  Use glue to affix the paper parts to a wooden skewer and stick each end into your pastry dish of choice!

Tip #3: Heart Straws. Who would’ve thought something as simple as a paper straw could make a table look so darn cute?!  These straws can be found at most craft or paper stores around this time of year (mine are from Paper Source).  They add the perfect final touch to a last minute Valentine’s Day table.
