A Camper’s Birthday Surprise

Today my boyfriend celebrates the big 3-0.  And I’m sure it’s no surprise to hear that I love going all out for birthday celebrations. For the birthdays I’ve been lucky enough to get to spend with my babe, the mornings have always included a special breakfast and at least one sort of surprise.  And since this birthday is his 30th, I wanted to do something extra special for the morning.

Tent TopChad loves camping (he is the quintessential outdoorsman) and he had been wanting some new camping gear for his upcoming backpacking trips, so I bought him a fancy new tent and a few other nerdy camp-related things. I wrapped the gifts but wanted to make the setup look a little more special than some pretty boxes on a table.  So, in theme with his gifts, as soon as he fell asleep last night I turned the kitchen into a mini campsite and setup a makeshift breakfast table in the tent for us to enjoy the morning in.  This campsite looked a bit more like “glamping” and definitely isn’t the kind of camping Chad likes to partake in, but it sure fits my idea of what a campsite should look like! I made the tent frame out of some PVC pipes – it was much easier than I had expected. Once I had my measurements, I sewed a slip cover for it using some sheets I scored from a thrift store. And lucky for you – I’ll be posting a DIY for it next week.

Camping Birthday Setup

There was of course a small chance he could wake up in the middle of the night. I left the lantern on last night, so if he was to see it before the morning, it would still look pretty freaking cool.

Camp at NightChad was all smiles this morning – he absolutely loved it! We enjoyed a delicious breakfast and opened gifts from the tent.  Once he headed to work, I ended up taking an accidental 2 hour nap in the tent with Riley and Dylan. The pups also loved hanging out in there – so much so that I ended up serving them their breakfast in it as well.

Riley in TentWe’ll be celebrating more tonight and then will be headed upstate tomorrow for a fun-filled birthday weekend with friends. Birthdays are just the best, aren’t they?!  Happiest of birthdays to my babe – the most talented and kindest person I know, the love of my life, my best friend, and my biggest supporter. Most handsome too. I love you so much, Chad Crews. Thank you for being my person in life.

Oh and btw y’all – if you too are a fan of camping, my Camp Cupcakes are worth a look!
