Monday Motivation: Yayoi Kusama

Yayoi Kusama’s “Obliteration Room” arrived in New York earlier this month and has brought thousands of Instagram-focused New Yorkers to the David Zwirner Gallery to ‘gram their hearts out (and participate in the colorful dot-happy installation from the brilliant and complex Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama). I had become memorized with photos from the Australian installation a couple of years ago and was so excited to hear the Obliteration Room was heading to New York. I loved being able to visit the room, add a few stickers, and watch others in the room. My favorite part was getting to watch all the adorable kids sticker wherever they pleased…what a dream come true for them!

Here’s what the room looked like on opening weekend. Sidenote: How cute is that little art-loving girl in her Kusama costume?!

And below is what the room looked like this past weekend. The stickers have practically made the once stark white interior an unrecognizable blur of colors. Continue on to see more photos from my visit.

Kusama’s installations are all equally brilliant, and getting to get to be a part of them is truly something special…a definite perk of living in a city such as New York. Kusama’s “Obliteration Room” runs at David Zwirner until June 13. For those of you who live in NY or plan on visiting in the next two weeks, make sure to visit before it’s too late.
