Monday Motivation: Fashion Inspiration

When looking to fashion for inspiration, I’ve always found myself admiring colors, prints, and textile patterns of the past – especially the 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s. Lately, however, I’ve found most of my fashion-based inspiration from more modern collections, like when I made THIS Mara Hoffman-inspired cake.  While I’d never be able to afford some of the pretty pieces I’ve come across lately, I’ve found a lot of visual inspiration from the colors, and design inspiration from the patterns. Here are just a few of my favorite collections as of late.

Valentino Resort 2015: While the 2016 collection just came out, I’m still completely enamored with Valentino’s 2015 resort pieces. I’m fairly certain my love for this collection can be attributed to all the vintage inspired colors and patterns that were used – especially the ‘1973 Rainbow’ bags and outerwear.

Mary Katrantzou Resort 2016: Katrantzou’s collections have been a huge source of visual inspiration for me lately – and this newly-debuted collection takes the cake. I mean, come on – just LOOK at these colors! With all the pleats, diagonals, and bright and bold colors, it’s impossible to not dream of twirling around in one of her beautiful dresses or skirts. Roksanda Resort 2016: It’s no surprise to hear that designer Roksanda Ilincic took inspiration for her Resort 2016 collection from Cubism and everyday shapes (especially a few musical instruments, in particular). Those block-heavy, geometric patterns, come together with the super vibrant contrasting colors she’s chosen for the collection in perfect harmony.
