While I really wanted to make an entire R2-D2 cake, the client (a 6-year-old) just wasn’t into the idea.  Per his request, he wanted his birthday cake to be half R2D2, with his favorite Star Wars characters displayed on the other half.  So, of course, I followed his lead. The R2 top was iced with buttercream, with fondant pieces used for the details.  I molded the two-dimensional characters out of fondant as well, which included Boba Fett, Yoda, a Stormtrooper and Darth Vader.
