Partially Naked Citrus Cake

Citrus Cake

You may remember when I was playing around with drying citrus a couple of months ago. Well, that was for this cake right here. New York Magazine had reached out to see if I would send over a cake for them to shoot and potentially include in their big Wedding Issue. I tried not to get too excited, because you never know with those opportunities. Yesterday I came across the issue in a magazine shop, nervously began to thumb through it, and then let out a very audible happy sigh/gasp when I saw it on the page. You’ll notice my photo above was taken before I added on the last citrus slice to that empty top right corner (oops).

Since the cake was for the summer issue, I let citrus be my inspiration. I arranged a mix of lightly dried and fresh sliced citrus down the cake and topped the cake with greenery and kumquats. I added a light layer of buttercream around the naked cake (hence “partially naked”), to slightly resemble the translucent appearance of the citrus.

Huge thank you to the team at New York Magazine – this means so much to me. I can’t even find the words right now, but I appreciate you all so much!  Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Beautiful! How did you attach the slices to the side of the cake?
